guuchan – The 155 songs on my mp3 player

After spending a few days hunting down some old songs, finally I have completed the collection. Considering the time I spent to hunt for them, encode them, pondering which ones I should pick and whatnot, you can expect a very long post coming. Ready?

First of all, a couple of notes:

  1. these are “The 155 songs on my mp3 player”, so yes, they are all songs, with vocal. BGMs are not featured in this release;
  2. all the songs were encoded from lossless to 320kbps mp3 myself. A big thanks to Hepka for helping me finding the lossless of “Shizuku”;
  3. all the songs are anime or game songs, or c/w songs from those related albums, or from seiyuu albums;
  4. the criteria of picking the songs: they have to be what I call “rerererelistenable”. There are many, many more good songs out there, but the majority of these 155 songs are HIGHLY relistenable, i.e. they can be looped continuously for a good long while, or you can listen to them multiple times in a short period of time. Of course, provided that you have a similar taste to mine, that is;
  5. there might be a slight exception to above — you will notice there’s a full album among the songs, minus the first track which is a short instrumental introduction. That album is Chiba Saeko’s “everything”. While not every single song on that album meets the criteria (around half of them do though),  the album is still a very good one. Chiba Saeko is properly one of the most underrated seiyuu singers. She’s tall for a Japanese girl, and she doesn’t exactly have a very cute face (even though she doesn’t look bad at all), so she does not have the “moe” factor like Horie Yui. She also doesn’t have amazing vibrato like Mizuki Nana, but trust me, she can sing. Her voice might be soft, but her expression of emotion in her songs are very natural. “Sayonara Solitaire”, anyone?

Now, the tracklist, followed by my comments or related thoughts of some of the songs that I would like to share. It’s going to be a VERY long read, so get yourself a cup of tea/coffee, fire up your favorite BGM music, make yourself comfortable, and start reading on. 🙂

Comments (number corresponds to the one on tracklist. If a certain number doesn’t exist here, it means I have no particular comment about that track):

2.  Kannaduki no Miko, ah. It’s the first show I translated. I loved it, partly because it’s a yuri show featuring my favorite seiyuu Kawasumi Ayako, partly because Himeko is super cute (especially when she bends over/sideway :P), partly because *coughChikaneknowshowtorapeafellowgirlcough*. For the song itself, I only have three words to say: two thumbs up;
3.  OP of “Garden”. I never played the game, but a lovely song nonetheless;
4.  In case you wonder where this song is from, it’s from Nagasarete Airantou. I think it’s played in the last episode, if I remember correctly. Yuinyan has quite a few love songs, but none of them is as cheesy as this one, which makes it special;
6.  Angelic Layer ED2. ED1, “The Starry Sky”, is not bad either, but this one is just classic;
7.  “Kiss Kiss koishiteru yo~“. That’s how simple falling in love is *nod*;
8.  Nope, it’s not Lia’s Aozora. It’s YURIA’s. Anyone remember which show this song is from?
9.  I bet everyone knows this song. It was a super popular show after all;
10. A super addictive song. It was all over Japan’s TV and radio when it came out;
11. As mentioned in a previous post, one of my top 3 Chata songs;
13. A very cute song for summer listening. If you don’t recognize the name Satou Rina, look her up. She is very likely in one of the shows you watched before;
14. Kin-iro no Corda OP. Never watched the show, but the song caught my attention;
15. This song will make you go around and around in circle. It’s not one of the better songs, but a funny one, in a sense;
16. The “label” song of CLANNAD per se;
17. This is an interesting one. The game, with the same title as the song, was… nah, I will leave it to you to look it up yourself if you have never heard of it :P;
18. A higurashi image song. My most favorite (higurashi) one;
19. Kashimashi image song. You don’t usually see Ueda Kana, Horie Yui, and Tamura Yukari singing together. The song itself is pretty nice;
20. Another one of my top 3 Chata songs, from Canvas3. Simple lyrics yet it depicts a very beautiful scene. I still need to translate the lyrics of it sometime;
22. Super GALS! ED. Never watched the show, but totally love the song. Love it, just love it. I can’t imagine another voice singing that song;
23. This is the live version at KSL concert. The normal version doesn’t really appeal to me, but this one is cuteness X 100;
25. Another epic piece of work written by Maeda Jun;
26. A totally different feel from Lia’s version. If Lia’s version is calming, then this one is sad;
27. Umisho OP. A totally cheerful song. If you need a song to light up your day, this is the one;
29. Baldr Bullet OP. Fast beat and noisy song. Normally it’s not my type, but since it’s here, you know there’s something special about it;
30. As the song title suggests, a good one to listen to in summer;
31. Yoake Mae Yori Ruriiro na game OP. The best song of Yuinyan. Enough said;
32. My second favorite of Full Moon songs;
34. ToHeart OP, how nostalgic. Loved the show, loved the song with the OP animation. Still loving the song, of course. It really makes you feel like you’re back to high school (if you are an old man like me, that is :P);
35. Kanon 2002 anime (Toei) OP. I always like to compare it to “Last regrets” and initiate a discussion about it with my friends on IRC. Personally, I think this one is alot more heartwrenching — it’s like a highly suppressed emotion that has nowhere to go;
36. Okazaki Ritsuko’s most popular song. Who doesn’t love fruits basket?
37. Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu OP. 38 is the original version, this one is sung by Chiba Saeko, who voiced for the show. My most favorite subbing project. If you haven’t watched the show yet, watch it now;
39. Ring, ring. Another summer song from Suika;
41. Laputa, Miyazaki Hayao’s best movie. Please tell me you have watched it;
42. Her arguably best song;
43. Yet another summer song. Relaxing to listen to, yet still upbeat enough for a bright summer day;
44. One of Chiba Saeko’s best upbeat songs, if not the best;
45. From Little Busters. Just close your eyes while listening to it and let your mind flies far, faraway;
46. My no.1 favorite Shimotsukin song, which I bet most of you haven’t heard of before. It takes you into a fairy tale world which you won’t want to leave;
47. I really miss Nakayama Arisa’s singing. Where did she go? 😦
48. This song is the reason why I said “Hajimari no Keshiki” was arguably her best upbeat song;
49. Asatte no Houkou OP. One of the songs that gives you a really nostalgic feel. I recommend you to watch the show if you haven’t yet, by the way;
54. I said above Chiba Saeko is good at expressing her emotion naturally in her singing. This is another example;
55. My wake up song. Nothing is better than starting your day with this one;
56. Who doesn’t like Ice Cream? 😛 The ED animation of the song in Narue no Sekai is my most favorite ED animation by the way. It depicts what “shiawase” is all about;
57. Oh, this one. My most favorite AIR song. Yes, better than Tori no Uta. You can find the lyrics here;
58. My most favorite FJY song. Very impactful;
60. Haha, Fushigi Yuugi. Doesn’t it bring back memories?
61. Okay, this one. It’s Saint Tail ED. Probably my most favorite anime in the 90s. I first watched the anime in dub, then a few years later I rewatched the whole thing in original Japanese. Even though I watched every single episode of Sailormoon that time (yeah I’m not going to deny), I think Saint Tail was the best of that age. I love how they handled the relationship between Meimi and Asuka Jr, in comparison sailormoon’s romance was totally silly;
63. Hocchan’s most emotional song;
64. One of the only 2 songs performed by male singers on this list. That definitely means something;
66. My most favorite FictionJunction song (of all singers);
68. Why would anyone not like this song?
69. Spiral OP. High pitch, super hyper, definitely not my type of song… usually. That should explain;
70. Original/Full version of 41. Again, please watch the movie asap if you haven’t yet;
73. W -Wish- OP. For some reason I like it alot;
74. Candy Boy ED. Simple song but nice;
79. Katakiri’s most passionate song for me. It doesn’t really sound like so, but you should be able to feel it;
81. You should regret by now if you haven’t heard this one before;
82. As epic as Tori no Uta. An upbeat yet sad song (you probably won’t feel the sadness in the song though if you haven’t played the game “Tomoyo After -It’s a Terrible Wonderful Life-“);
84. I bet Nanoha fans will cause havoc if this song is not here;
86. In case you wonder (which I bet you will), this song is from Sora no Iro, Mizu no Iro. Putting the game aside, good hentai is good :D;
88. Kurau Phantom Memory ED. Full of mysterious feel;
89. Anyone remember which show this song is from?
90. I actually wasn’t sure if I should include this song. You might get fed up of it after a while, but give it a good break when that happens and you will feel like listening to it again later;
93. My most favorite Full Moon song;
94. It’s from the game/novel “Narcissu -Side 2nd-“.  The 1st game is translated into English, I highly recommend you to play it. If you do, play it in the evening with lights off. No, it’s not a scary story, just that’s the right mood for it;
95. A poetry-like song from Suika;
96. I like this one better than the original version (97);
99. Probably my most favorite Katakiri song;
100.A winter breakup song. Yes, I’m serious;
102.One of my 2 cellphone ringtones. If I have three hands, I will give it three thumbs up. 101 is a different version that you will have to take a while to get used to;
103.Yoake Mae Yori Ruriiro na anime OP. It’s gentle and caring just like Feena. Chant with me: FEENA SAIKOU!
105.I’m surprised myself that I included this song. For some people it’s an instant hit, but it took me a while for the song to grow on me;
107.The best song of KgNE. Anyone disagrees?
108.Co-written by Revo and Kajiura Yuki. Performed by Revo’s Sound Horizon aka Harem girls. Revo & Kajiura also participated in the song, on both instruments and vocals;
109.The Da Capo song. I thought about “Da Capo -Dai-2 Button no Chikai-” too, but that song is only catchy at the beginning, so;
110.Chrno Crusade ED. It’s a nobrainer anytime when you name best of best anime songs;
111.Saikano ED. My no.1 /wrist song. Its sadness is incomparable;
114.Moribito OP. The other of the 2 songs performed by male singer;
115.Yoake Mae Yori Ruriiro na -Moonlight Cradle- OP. I have to admit I had some prejudice in choosing this song because of FEEEEEEEENA, but it’s a good song nonetheless;
116.GTO anime ED2. A pop-y yet sad with some out-of-nowhere rap in the middle, however everything somehow fits well together to make it into one of my all-time favorite songs;
119.Shana II ED2. VERY addictive song;
120.It’s the c/w song of Yami to Boushi OP single. My most favorite Kayou Aiko song;
121.A higurashi song that doesn’t sound higurashi at all. Putting that aside, I like it;
122.PS2 Yotsunoha OP. A very lovely song from Yuinyan;
125.FMP Fumoffu OP. I don’t think I need to recommend this one. Another excellent song to start your day;
127.This song should be famous enough. 126 is the seiyuu version of it;
128.Koihime Musou game PV song. The other of my 2 cellphone ringtones. It’s too good a song that it’s such a waste to be used just for a PV;
129.My no.1 Chata song <3;
131.Ai Yori Aoshi -Enishi- OP. While Feena is my favorite game girl, Aoi is my favorite anime girl;
133.GUNSLINGER GIRL -IL TEATRINO- OP. Didn’t watch the show (watched the first one though), but great song is great nonetheless;
134.Best TTT song to-date still;
136.Stellvia ED2. A very passionate song;
137.CLANNAD AS OP. Wasn’t really fond of the song at first because I was used to the BGM, but it grew on me;
139.If Laputa is Miyazaki Hayao’s best movie, then Tonari no Totoro is his cutest movie. This song totally reflects it;
140.It’s Tori no Uta. Do I need to say anything?
141.Ai Yori Aoshi OP. It gives you a really warm feeling;
142.A warm winter song from Shimotsukin;
144.It’s the OP of game “Yanedutai no Kimi he”. I bet most of you have never heard of the game. It’s okay though, you don’t need to know the game to like this song. Trance version (143) is a more upbeat version;
145.I think we should all know this song;
146.V.G Neo OP. One of the KOTOKO songs that tends to be overlooked because it’s only included in very few albums;
149.One of Lia’s most overlooked songs. A very encouraging song, even if you don’t understand the lyrics, you should be able to feel it just by the song’s tone;
150.Anyone remember which show this song is from?
151.Animelo 2008 theme song. My most favorite one from Animelo;
153.The legendary higurashi song. Personally I prefer Yukino Satsuk’s over Yuduki’s original version, how about you?
154.Fuyu no Rondo 2nd OP. Simple lyrics, very addictive melody.

You can get this collection of goodies here or from the bot kawai-chan in our IRC channel.

  1. Quite a lot of great songs here, and I’m sure those I don’t know will be good as well.
    Especially love that you’ve included Kokoro no Ato. 🙂

  2. Hay ~_~

    At Last i have been waiting .

    By The Way

    while i am Writing This

    I have 1282 Japanese Song in my PC

    Nice Ha

    THANK YOU VERY MUCH [ guuchan ]

  3. I don’t know if you were just testing us or seriously asking, but if it is the latter, I happen to know the source for 2 of the entries where you asked if anyone know where they were from.

    8. Green Green’s ED
    89. Midori no Hibi’s ED

  4. 150. It’s the OP from the anime series called Boukyaku no Senritsu, known in english territories and in a good part of the world as Melody of Oblivion.

  5. Ah, it’s too bad it’s in a .rar – I wish I could just pick and choose instead of dl’ing the whole thing since I already have about half of these =P.

    That and my bandwidth is hurting from Left4Dead, lol.

    Thanks for the batch tho

  6. haha, that’s a lot for your mp3 player, i only have 512MB mp3 player, so only at least 51 song in mine x.x

    and glad to see that we like the same song, well some of it, but yeah, i like that 155 song! well, i do like bgm song too, so maybe if i have bigger space for my mp3 player, it become more than this list x.x

    thanks for sharing!

  7. I just noticed that the no. of gd songs that I want to listen to are crazily long and I am unable to put them all in my playlist to listen to all >_>
    and, I see several songs that I know of, maybe because a lot of them are anime/game songs >_> well for the time being, the giga op track you released some time ago is keeping me from changing my playlist again. somehow Empathetic is very familiar.
    I agree with Shana 2’s ed song being very addictive. I have no idea why but I also like it very much.

    btw, what about Kioku no Mori – Fiction Junction (Tsubasa Shunraiki ED)? Isn’t nice enough to be put up there (I didn’t really look through all but i don’t think I saw it, at least after looking through the ‘K’ section of the songlist.

  8. @Excaliburp: I was just throwing the question to see if you guys can remember it from memories, but thanks for answering anyway. 🙂

    @TB: I put up a page for that, read edit (bottom of the post).

    @aero: unfortunately that song does’t meet my criteria. Many, many songs sound good at the beginning, or for a while, but after that you will just forget about it till maybe a few months/years later or even forever. The songs that go onto my mp3 player have to be listenable everyday, every other day, or at least every week.

  9. Thanks guu ❤

    I’m surprised at how all over the board this is. You’d think there’d be a similar feel throughout. Good stuff. Also surprised you didn’t put soramimi cake in there 😉

    Lots I haven’t heard. Thanks.

  10. Perfect timing. I just lost my harddrive with the bulk of my music, and this is one brilliant pack to keep me going while I rebuild my collection.

    Many thanks~

  11. Woot. A fair amount of my favourites are in the list too.

    Good music really deserves to be shared. Thanks for the effort!

  12. Her songs are far from my type. I don’t go for singers, I go for songs. As much as I recommended Chiba Saeko, it’s still because I like alot of her songs. Song first, then artist. That’s how my priority goes.

  13. Another Chiba Saeko song that was all time fav’ is ‘Hikari’ (Heat Guy J ED2). When it first time play, It blow me away, and also let me know to the future project of the song composer, Yuki Kajiura.

  14. You are the only person I’ve ever heard say that Rumbling hearts is the best Kiminozo song.

    Besides me, of course.

    Though I still think Hoshizora no Waltz is a better Minami song, SRTOG’s “Yell!” being my fave.

  15. @Crys: just like many other good songs, I did like Hoshizora no Waltz. I listened to it quite alot when the show was airing, and still quite abit right afterwards, but then I got fed up of it. It’s still a good song though, but it’s not longlasting.

    If I have to pick another KgNE song to go onto my mp3 player, it will undoubtedly be “Blue tears”. In case you have never heard of it before…

    In fact, “Blue tears” almost made it onto my mp3 player. I might add it in the future.

  16. So, more comments now that I’ve actually had the chance to listen to them as well.

    14. Exactly the same for me. Didn’t care for the show at all, but the song is good.
    23. Agreed, it’s definitely better.
    31. Don’t like this one that much, actually. Koi no Honoo still remains my favorite of hers. Even if it’s from Kanokon…
    35. I think I still prefer Last regrets. 😛
    46. Great song, agreed. Still, life stays my favorite. Which reminds me – why is life not in this list?
    48. I think I said this already with the FictionJunction album – I really love this song. And that, of course, in this version.
    58. Yes, my favorite FJY song as well. Also reminds me a bit of 48 in certain parts.
    66. Definitely great, but I think I prefer Yume no Tsubasa or inside your heart.
    108. Instant love from the moment meer first recommended it.
    139. Can’t say I like this one much…
    140. I was actually looking for this song a while ago. Nice to finally have it now. Not really one of my favorites, but I still like it a lot.
    145. No, didn’t know this one before. As expected, another great song, though.
    153. My favorite is still Visionen im Spiegel.

  17. @HeisT: to be honest, I have never heard it before. It’s definitely an interesting one. I have to listen to it a bit longer to decide whether it’s a classic or not, but thank you for recommending it. 🙂

    @XZX: oops, forgot about him. ^^; Thanks for pointing out.

    @Marek:
    31. I have complicated feelings for that song. It’s definitely catchy, but something is just lacking. I can’t explain it;
    35. I don’t blame you. It’s a really hard choice;
    46. Good question. Somehow I missed it. I’m adding a few songs onto my mp3 player in the next few days, and this one will be one of them. However, “Hatsukoi Kobako” still remains as my most favorite, by far;
    139. Did you watch the movie? If not, it could be the reason;
    153. Actually I have never heard that version before. I listened to it, and I still like the one on my mp3 player. 😛

  18. @guuchan, I’d love to have lossless version of all 155 songs, and they are all avaliable on the XDCC bots right? (in individual albums).

  19. @Crys: definitely.

    @Checkmate: unfortunately not all. You won’t be able to find quite some of them. You’re far from the first one to request the lossless version of all the songs, and while I’m glad to hear that you love my collection, they are scattered all over the places, i.e. in the folders of their own albums. The estimated size will likely be over 4GB too, so it will take me a while to sort out all the individual tracks and upload them. I will share them in the form of direct download. When it’s ready, I will update the post below:

  20. Can anyone suggest more songs like Sore ga, ai deshou? Many in guuchan’s list are good (some are pure excellence, like sociometry. I regret for not watching shana season 2) but most of them are quite a bit of ‘slow’ songs >.<

  21. Awesome collection, thanks for sharing! #120 Kayou Aiko’s “solitude” is amazing. Any chance you have the kanji lyrics for it? ^.^

  22. @Legion: I’m glad that you love the song. It’s one of my most favorite pop songs on my playlist. Yes, I do have the official kanji lyrics.

  23. could you zip it up and upload it on megaupload, rapidshare, or any file hosting sites? it’s kinda of a pain to save 160 or so songs on my computer and the torrent you provided doesn’t start, it’s still on 0%. 😦

  24. @kache: It’s quite possible, depending on the full version. Actually I already have a few songs picked out since last addition, I will update and post them once the new batch has reached 5-6 songs.

  25. Hi,
    Just like to thank you for hosting “Shine.” I’ve been looking for a lossless version for the longest time. Now I can go blow out my ear drums properly. I can’t tell you how disappointed I was to hear a 256kbps mp3 version after watching the anime – it’s like hearing a magnum go Pop! I know my headphones are fairly cheap – but even so I could still tell the difference. Thanks again!
